Hosts: Sustentarea - Research and Extension Center on Sustainable Food, University of São Paulo (USP), Comida do Amanhã Institute, Regenera Institute, and WRI Brasil
This session will explore how public procurement from family farming through the Programa Nacional de Alimentação Escolar (PNAE) and the Programa de Aquisição de Alimentos (PAA) in the Metropolitan Region of Belém can serve as a strategic driver for more sustainable food systems.
Based on the characterization of regional purchases, the discussion will examine how these programs help to strengthen short supply chains, stimulate local production, promote food and nutrition security, and valorize family farming, generating positive territorial impacts framed by climate justice principles and the transition toward sustainable food systems.
In addition, the event will showcase the Interactive Panel of the Multidimensional Index of Sustainable Food Systems – Revised for Brazil (MISFS-R), using Belém’s indicators as a case study and framing COP30 as a strategic opportunity to advance integrated public policies.
